January Center Spotlight:
Pediatric Rare Disease Center
Q: So, Pediatric Rare Disease Center, what's your story?
A: The Pediatric Rare Disease Center is a multidisciplinary center comprised of interdisciplinary teams with expertise in neurology, pediatrics, genetics, nephrology, cardiology, and more! Our mission is to provide excellent clinical care and participate in cutting-edge research to help children with rare diseases and their families.
Q: Tell us about a recent project or problem that the Pediatric Rare Disease Center made better, faster, smarter, more efficient, or less expensive.
A: We're currently collaborating with doctors in East and West Tennessee and other states in the Mid-South on the beginning stages of a project that will standardize and streamline newborn screening and help us define best practices across states. Our goal is to provide timely and appropriate care to as many patients as possible regardless of where they live.
Q: What do you wish other people knew about the Pediatric Rare Disease Center?
A: Even though our center is called the Pediatric Rare Disease Center, we work with more than just children. We also see and provide care to adults, pregnant women, families, caregivers, and communities that are affected by rare diseases.
